Role

Sorian Aerospace is building a high-performance fighter-class jet for adversary air (Red Air) missions and advanced pilot training. The goal: deliver the maneuverability, integrated electronic warfare, BVR targeting, autonomous flight, CCA interoperability, and flight experience of front-line fighters — at a fraction of the cost. As Lead Avionics Engineer, you’ll own the entire avionics stack — from wiring diagrams to flight computer software. You’ll design and build the hardware and code that makes the aircraft fly, sense, communicate, and adapt. This includes flight displays, navigation systems, control surfaces, comms, sensor integration, onboard compute, and autonomy infrastructure. You’ll work closely with flight test, propulsion, and systems teams to ensure seamless integration across all domains. This is a hands-on engineering role with real ownership — and zero legacy constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and build the full avionics system: compute, I/O, wiring, displays, and power
  • Select flight computers, build wiring harnesses, and develop integration strategy
  • Own real-time software stack for flight controls, sensors, displays, and mission systems
  • Integrate navigation (GNSS/INS), datalink, radar, EW, and CCA-compatible payloads
  • Build telemetry, diagnostics, and ground station integration for flight testing
  • Support manned-unmanned teaming and autonomous control development
  • Create hardware-in-the-loop test environments to validate code and systems
  • Drive flight test instrumentation, data logging, and onboard storage solutions
  • Hire and lead a small team of engineers across avionics hardware and software

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of experience in avionics, embedded systems, or flight control development
  • Hands-on experience with aircraft wiring, flight computers, and I/O integration
  • Proficiency in embedded C/C++ or real-time Linux development environments
  • Familiarity with CAN, ARINC 429/664, Ethernet, RS-232/422, and other aircraft buses
  • Understanding of RF systems, sensor fusion, and real-time data acquisition pipelines
  • Experience integrating and validating systems in hardware-in-the-loop or flight environments
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required

Results

  • Deliver a complete avionics system ready for integration and flight
  • Achieve functional test and telemetry readiness within the first 6 months
  • Build an avionics foundation that supports both piloted and autonomous operation
  • Lay the groundwork for ongoing capability growth, including EW, CCA, and advanced comms

Availability

Full-time, based in Long Beach, CA
Some evenings and weekends may be required during integration and test events

Compensation Range

$250,000–$300,000 base salary
  • generous equity
  • complete healthcare benefits for you and your dependents

Company Core Values

We run it hotter. We run it faster.
We don’t outsource thinking — we design, build, and test in-house.
We value engineers who take ownership, solve hard problems, and ship working systems.
